What are the factors considered by the CLSU BA Sophomore students in their choice of major field of study? 2. What are the sources of information that CLSU BA Sophomore students used in their major field of study selection process? 3. How do those factors and sources of information affect the CLSU BA Sophomore studentsââ¬â¢ decision of not choosing accounting as a major field of study? Objectives of the Study The general objective of this study is to analyze the non-correspondence between CLSU BA Sophomore studentsââ¬â¢ major field of study and their freshman preferred accounting course. The specific objectives are the following: 1. To determine factors considered by the CLSU BA Sophomore students in their choice of major field of study. . To determine the sources of information that CLSU BA Sophomore students used in their major field of study selection process. 3. To evaluate how those factors and sources of information affect the CLSU BA Sophomore studentsââ¬â¢ decision of not choosing accounting as a major. Significance of the Study This study will provide significant contributi on to the students, CLSU Department of Accountancy and accounting education. For the students, this study will guide them in their major field of study selection process. This may assist them for better decision-making. For the CLSU Department of Accountancy, this study may be of interest because it will give information of what underlies the non-correspondence between CLSU BA sophomore studentsââ¬â¢ major field of study and their freshmen preferred accounting course. In addition, it will help the department in more actively screening and recruiting students to major in accounting course. For the accounting education, this study will yield insights where the accounting educators may base the activities that can be undertaken to improve the accounting education in our country. Scope and Limitation The scope of the study will be the sophomore students of academic year 2011-2012 with major field of study other than accounting in the College of Business Administration and Accountancy in Central Luzon State University. In addition, these sophomore students have accounting as their preferred freshman accounting course. This study will not include those students whose preferred freshman accounting course is accounting but did not enroll in the College of Business Administration and Accountancy during their first year. Moreover, this study will not cover those students with preferred freshman accounting course that enrolled in College of Business Administration of Accountancy during their first year but did not take their second year in the same college and/or university. Conceptual Framework Independent variablesDependent Variable The above figure provides the explanatory framework upon which the entire analysis of the non-correspondence between CLSU Business Administration sophomore studentsââ¬â¢ major field of study and their freshman preferred accounting course will rest. The framework shows the independent and dependent variables. It is based on the input-process-output relationship. This relationship reflects the decision-making process of the students in their major field of study selection. The decision-making process is shown within circle with broken lines. There will be no theoretical framework used on the study since it will focus only on determining the relative importance of criteria used to select a major not on the decision-making process itself. The factors and sources of information are considered as the key inputs present in the decision-making process of the students; hence, these elements are within the circle. These key inputs will be considered as the independent variables. To guide the analysis, it is assumed that the students take into account all the relevant factors in their decision-making given three limitations: one year time frame, opportunity cost of choosing the wrong major is high and taking double major is not allowed. It is based on the premise that students maximize their resources given the three limitations. Furthermore, the analysis will be based on the premise that the students make decisions using the information from important referents and not on isolation. The dependent variable is the decision of not choosing accounting as a major field of study. It is related to the output of the decision-making process where the sophomore students chose majors which are not corresponding to their freshman preferred accounting course. As shown in the figure, the dependent variable is outside the circle with broken lines. This is because the decision of not choosing accounting is only indirect product of the selection process. Still, this decision is dependent on the key inputs because once the sophomore students chose business majors other than accounting they cannot choose accounting anymore. This is when the third limitation- taking double major is not allowed is present. Broken lines are used to show that decision of not choosing accounting as a major is not an isolated decision and to portray the association between the key inputs and the dependent variables. Research Methodology Overview Research Strategy The research strategy that will be used for the study is Survey Approach. It will be used to view comprehensively and in detail the data that will be gathered to analyze the non-correspondence between CLSU BA sophomore studentsââ¬â¢ major field of study and their freshmen preferred accounting course. This approach will be adopted the survey approach to emphasize the quest for details of tangible data- data that can be measured and recorded. The research strategy will contain two (2) phases. In the first phase, the researchers will run focus groups of CLSU BA sophomore students with major field of study non-corresponds with their freshmen preferred accounting course. The focus group is a research in which students are informally interviewed in a group discussion setting. The researchers will gather together these students to discuss the issues affecting the research study. In addition, there will be a moderator, aside from the researchers, to facilitate free and open discussion in the group. In the second phase, the researchers will then use what they will learn in focus groups to design a questionnaire that will allow collecting systematic and quantitative data about the non-correspondence of the major field of study of CLSU BA sophomore students and their freshmen preferred accounting course. The questionnaire will be distributed in broader range of sample students. Respondents The respondents of this study will be the CLSU Business Administration sophomore students whose major field of study does not correspond with their preferred freshman accounting course. These are the students whose first choice is accounting in their application for College Admission Test in Central Luzon State University but selected business major other than accounting in their sophomore year in College of Business Administration and Accountancy in the university. Sampling Technique The study will use purposive sampling wherein the respondents will be ââ¬Ëhand pickedââ¬â¢ for the research. The term is applied where the researcher already knows the names of CLSU BA sophomore students, whose major field of study did not correspond with their freshmen preferred accounting course, and will deliberately selects particular ones because they are seen as instances that are likely to produce the most valuable data. Data Gathering Tools The research will use: documents containing the list of names of the respondents; tape-recorded conversation in the focus group; and questionnaires that will be distributed to the respondents. Data Processing and Analysis The data that will be gathered using the data gathering tools will be presented and analyzed to attain the objectives of the study.

Why Dead Fish Float Upside Down
Why Dead Fish Float Upside Down If youve seen dead fish in a pond or your aquarium, youve noticed they tend to float on the water. More often than not, theyll be belly up, which is a dead giveaway (pun intended) youre not dealing with a healthy, living fish. Have you ever wondered why dead fish float and live fish dont? It has to do with fish biology and the scientific principle of buoyancy. Key Takeaways Dead fish float in water because decomposition fills the fishs gut with buoyant gases. The reason fish typically go belly up is because the spine of the fish is more dense than its belly.Healthy living fish dont float. They have an organ called a swim bladder that regulates the amount of gas present in the body of a fish and thus its buoyancy Why Living Fish Don't Float To understand why a dead fish floats, it helps to understand why a live fish is in the water and not on top of it. Fish consist of water, bones, protein, fat, and a smaller amount of carbohydrates and nucleic acids. While fat is less dense than water, your average fish contains a higher amount of bones and protein, which makes the animal neutrally buoyant in water (neither sinks nor floats) or slightly more dense than water (slowly sinks until it gets deep enough). It doesnt require much effort for a fish to maintain its preferred depth in the water, but when they do swim deeper or seek shallow water they rely on an organ called a swim bladder or air bladder to regulate their density. How this works is that water passes into a fishs mouth and across its gills, which is where oxygen passes from the water into the bloodstream. So far, its a lot like human lungs, except on the outside of the fish. In both fish and humans, the red pigment hemoglobin carries oxygen to cells. In a fish, some of the oxygen is released as oxygen gas into the swim bladder. The pressure acting on the fish determines how full the bladder is at any given time. As the fish rises toward the surface, the surrounding water pressure decreases and oxygen from the bladder returns to the bloodstream and back out through the gills. As a fish descends, water pressure increases, causing hemoglobin to release oxygen from the bloodstream to fill the bladder. It allows a fish to change depth and is a built-in mechanism to prevent the bends, where gas bubbles form in the bloodstream if pressure decreases too rapidly. Why Dead Fish Float When a fish dies, its heart stops beating and blood circulation ceases. The oxygen that is in the swim bladder remains there, plus decomposition of the tissue adds more gas, particularly in the gastrointestinal tract. Theres no way for the gas to escape, but it presses against the fishs belly and expands it, turning the dead fish into a sort of fish-balloon, rising toward the surface. Because the spine and muscles on the dorsal side (top) of the fish are more dense, the belly rises up. Depending on how deep a fish was when it died, it might not rise to the surface, at least not until decomposition really sets in. Some fish never gain sufficient buoyancy to float and decay under the water. In case you were wondering, other dead animals (including people) also float after they start to decay. You dont need a swim bladder for that to happen. Sources Chapin, F. Stuart; Pamela A. Matson; Harold A. Mooney (2002). Principles of Terrestrial Ecosystem Ecology. New York: Springer. Performing Shakespeare - Interview With Ben Crystal
Performing Shakespeare - Interview With Ben Crystal Ben Crystal is the author of Shakespeare on Toast (published by Icon Books), a new book that dispels the myth that Shakespeare is difficult. Here, he shares his thoughts about performing Shakespeare and reveals his top tips for first-time actors. About.com: Is performing Shakespeare difficult? Ben Crystal: Well, yes ... and so it should be! These plays are over 400 years old. They contain cultural gags and references that are completely obscure to us. But theyââ¬â¢re also hard to perform because Shakespeare was so darned good at tapping into the human heart ââ¬â so, as an actor you canââ¬â¢t allow yourself to hold back. If you canââ¬â¢t go to the depths of your soul, explore the extremes of yourself, go to the bad place as Othello or Macbeth, then you shouldnââ¬â¢t be on the stage. You have to think about the big speeches in Shakespeare as the most important things the character has ever said; they need to be spoken with your chest cut open, your heart bare, and with tremendous passion. You need to tear the words from the sky. If you donââ¬â¢t feel like youââ¬â¢ve run a marathon when youââ¬â¢re done, youââ¬â¢re not doing it right. It takes courage to open yourself up to an audience like that, letting them see your insides without desperately trying to show them ââ¬â it takes practice. About.com: Whatââ¬â¢s your advice to someone performing Shakespeare for the first time? Ben Crystal: Donââ¬â¢t treat it lightly, but donââ¬â¢t treat it too seriously either. I know that sounds like a contradiction, but itââ¬â¢s similar to the notion of having to act truthfully in a big space, which many actors struggle with. Itââ¬â¢s a tricky balance, and Shakespeare asks you to deal with these huge ideas and emotions which all too often lead you into ââ¬Å"over-actingâ⬠ââ¬â stay away from big gestures and over-the-top characterizations. A lot of what you need to know is on the page already. So it is tricky, and you have to work at it, but itââ¬â¢s also the best fun in the world. Enjoy it. Learn your lines so well you can go running or do the washing up while saying them. Only once theyââ¬â¢re a deep part of you, can you start playing. A lot of people take Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays far too seriously, and forget that important word: ââ¬Å"playâ⬠. Itââ¬â¢s a game, so enjoy it! You canââ¬â¢t ââ¬Å"playâ⬠with your fellow actors if youââ¬â¢re trying to remember your lines. About.com: Has Shakespeare left clues to actors in the text? Ben Crystal: Yes, I think so. So does Peter Hall, Patrick Tucker, and a fair few others. Whether or not he actually did is always going to be up for debate. Going back to an original text like the First Folio will help. Itââ¬â¢s the first collected edition of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays, edited by two of his leading actors. They would have wanted to create a book on how to perform their colleagueââ¬â¢s plays, not how to read them - 80% of Elizabethans couldnââ¬â¢t read! So the First Folio is as close to Shakespeareââ¬â¢s intended scripts as we can possibly get. When modern editors of the plays are making a new edition, they go back to the First Folio and remove capitalized letters, change spellings and switch speeches between characters because theyââ¬â¢re looking at the plays from a literary point of view, not a dramatic one. Bearing in mind that Shakespeareââ¬â¢s company would perform a new play every day, they simply wouldnââ¬â¢t have had much time to rehearse. Therefore, the theory goes that much of the stage direction is written into the text. Indeed, it is possible to work out where to stand, how fast to speak, and what your characterââ¬â¢s state of mind is, all from the text. About.com: How important is it to understand iambic pentameter before performing? Ben Crystal: That depends on how much you respect the writer youââ¬â¢re working with. Most of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays are written in that particular rhythmical style, so to ignore it would be foolish. Iambic pentameter is the rhythm of our English language and of our bodies ââ¬â a line of that poetry has the same rhythm as our heartbeat. A line of iambic pentameter fills the human lung perfectly, so itââ¬â¢s the rhythm of speech. One could say that itââ¬â¢s a very human sounding rhythm and Shakespeare used it to explore what it is to be human. On a slightly less abstract note, iambic pentameter is a line of poetry with ten syllables, and all the even-numbered syllables have a slightly stronger stress. Thatââ¬â¢s a direction by itself ââ¬â the stronger stresses usually fall on the important words. About.com: So what about lines with less than ten syllables? Ben Crystal: Well, either Shakespeare couldnââ¬â¢t count and was an idiot - or he was a genius and knew what he was doing. When there are less than ten syllables in a line, heââ¬â¢s giving the actor room to think. If the meter changes at any point, itââ¬â¢s a direction from Shakespeare to his actors about the character theyââ¬â¢re playing. It sounds quite complicated, but actually, once you know what youââ¬â¢re looking for, itââ¬â¢s incredibly straightforward. Shakespeare knew that his actors would have had this rhythm flowing through their veins, and so would his audience. If he broke the rhythm, theyââ¬â¢d feel it. To not understand iambic pentameter as an actor is to not understand 80% of the style Shakespeare wrote in, and the same amount again of what makes his writing so terrific. Economics - Essay Example Interest rates are used as tools by central banks to control inflation. When Bank believes inflation is beginning to rise, it raises interest rates to cool the economy and vice versa. Therefore, the long term affect of raising interest rate will be to reduce inflation. For the constructers of apartments, this might mean relatively cheaper production due to cheaper cost of resources. The supply curve will therefore shift to the right (fig.4). Constructers will be able to provide more value for the same price to the customers. Also, many of the customers who might have refused to invest in property initially when the interest price increased would now be more in terms with the market and willing to invest. In the longer run, increased interest rate would have made its impact of controlling inflation and prices for other goods would be more stable. All these factors would result in increasing the demand and would result in a shift in demand curve to the right

Greek methodology's effects on ancient socialization Essay
Greek methodology's effects on ancient socialization - Essay Example Greek mythology has heavily influenced their culture and socialization, especially when it comes in their sexual beliefs, may it be having a patriarchal society, or just their plain sexual norms. Myths are actually the beliefs of people what are subtly disguised as a form of literature. In fact, because so much of these myths are creation stories, many of people believe that most myths are factual. Greek mythology is quite sexual in nature. Then again, sexual identity is very cultural as well, as our sense of self is rooted in sexual mythology as well. This is because the sexuality of a society is cleverly reflected in their literature. Sex is actually the core of culture. This is ironic considering the mainstream Western belief actually makes sex taboo, even sacred. Many of these Western societies believe that sexuality comes from the individual as it is a private subject. Ironically, sex is the core of every culture. Consider this, without sex or reproduction for that matter, there would be no culture, society, religion, art, etc. Basically there would be nothing if sex is not in the picture. And as evolved creatures, humans are programmed to reproduce. Christians believe in the story of Genesis. In Genesis, the creation of the world and man and woman is the plot of the story. In it, the first two people were Adam and Eve, and Eve was made from Adamââ¬â¢s flesh, making Eve a mere second-class citizen. But in other myths, specifically in the Talmud, before Eve came Lilith. Lilith here was the first wife of Adam. And unlike Eve, she was made from dust, like Adam. She was also one of the wives of Satan, but because she was deemed ââ¬Å"wildâ⬠, she left Satan and joined Adam. Their coupling was also deemed to be unfit for longevity because Lilith demanded equality with Adam. It is a logical wish since Lilith came from the same dust where Adam came from. Adam opposed this and they fought; Lilith left and proceeded to live in air. Adam prayed to God

Cryptology and Data Protection - Research Paper Example Some experts argue that cryptography emerged suddenly sometime after writing was discovered (Smith, 2015). With uses stretching from discreet communications to the war-duration combat plans, it is no surprise that new methods of cryptography appeared shortly after the extensive growth of computer communications. Telecommunications and data cryptography is essential when interacting over any unsecure channel, which comprises of almost all networks, especially the Internet (Zimmerman, 1994). This paper discusses the cryptography of information and the protection of data. Within the framework of every application-to-application communication, there are certain definite security necessities, comprising: Authentication which is the process of confirming a userââ¬â¢s identification (Burgess, 2008). However, presently the internet primary forms of host-to-host authentication are address-based or name-based, which are very weak authentication. Confidentiality/Privacy is safeguarding that no unintended persons can receive the message apart from the projected recipient. Integrity is the state of guaranteeing the recipient that the intercepted message has not been changed in any manner from the original. Non-repudiation is the mechanism to verify that the correspondent really conducted the transaction of sending that particular message (Chandra, 2009). Cryptography, not only safeguards data from hacking or modification, but can also be used for user identification. There are three forms of cryptographic structures in general normally employed to achieve these objectives. Namely: secret key also known as the symmetric cryptography, hash functions and public-key also known as asymmetric cryptography (Oecd, 2015). In all instances, the first unhidden data is identified as plain text. It is encoded into cipher text, which eventually is decoded into operational plain text (Pezaro, 2015). There are two keys

Garbology - Essay Example At the end of each grounds lane, there is a huge bin where tenants are expected to dump their waste so as the truck can empty each night. Considering that garbology is an essential part in my education, I attempted to analyze the garbage in the bin one morning as part of my assignment. I realized a bag that had been left outside the bin in a torn paper bag and was so sure it belonged to our recent neighbor. I took my gloves and a mask and another paper bag so that as I go through the waste, I will put it in a better paper and throw it in the main bin. When I started collecting the scattered trash, I came across so different items that caught my eyes. There were wastes from fruits, plastic yoghourt bottles, cereal boxes, top loading sheet protectors, ink jet print transparencies, old magazines and a book. The top loading sheet protectors had been disposed of in large volumes. I concluded that there are people who live in the house and work inside the house too. The sheets had been stuck to each other and seemed to be no longer usable. The protectors were along a file a file with the name of a company called HSBC that made me conclude that in the house there lived a banker, and his name was Mr. McDonald. The Jet ink transparencies had cartoon characters drawn on it. This made me conclude that there is one of the family members that is I the creative field and is involved in coming up with comics or probably works for the media that requires cartoons. One of the transparencies had with it the name Jack. In addition, the cartoon that was drawn was one in a recent blog that talks about teenagers in a website for teens. This communicated that I the house there is a teenager who is creative and concentrates on drawing cartoons. The old magazines seemed to be women oriented. This communicates that there is existence of women in the house who are focused on fashion. Another
